Google+ Business Pages Opened This Week

Google opened up Google Plus Pages for Business this week. Setting up a Google Plus page is really easy.  Go into your Google Plus profile and look for the link to add a business, or to  Go to http://www.google.com/+/business/ to get started.

There are only a few things to do.  First select he business name and category.

If you select the local category, it will try to find your Google Places location first based on the phone number you provide.

You can also add a photo (maybe the business logo) and describe the main services or products of the business.

The design of the page is very clean and shows the business name and photo, 4 tabs (Posts, About, Photos, and Videos) and about 3 or 4 posts.  Users can only respond to posts, so there is no spam to worry about.

Direct Connect is the way users can search for Plus pages on Google search.  An example provided by Google in their announcement showed a search for “+Toyota” results in this page: https://plus.google.com/109401964142949249458/posts. The visitor can then easily “Add this page to your circles?” making it very sharable.

By separating followers into groups (called circles) business can send targeted, relevant messages specifically tailored to reach followers in certain cities, ages, gender and languages.  In addition Google also offers analytics on these pages.
